Most of the sets belonged to my brother, but he always let me join in the fun, and those colorful bricks fueled countless imaginative adventures.

As I grew older, my interests shifted to arts and crafts, reading, and video games. While I knew Lego remained popular, evidenced by the long lines at the Lego store in Disney Springs, the blockbuster movies, and even a dedicated theme park, it wasn’t something I paid much attention to anymore.

That changed in 2018 when Lego released a Voltron set inspired by the classic anime. It was a tough year for me, filled with financial challenges, and I was heartbroken that I couldn’t afford the set. My longing for it wasn’t about the Lego itself, it was about Voltron, a series I cherished deeply.

To my surprise, a group of friends pooled their resources to gift me the set. Their kindness brought me to tears. Not only did it make me feel incredibly loved, but building the set brought back the joy and nostalgia of my childhood.

Fast forward seven years, and I find myself bitten by the Lego bug again, not because of Lego itself, but because of the subject matter. Recently, Lego released a stunning set representing the Milky Way Galaxy, and it immediately caught my eye. Its aesthetic, vivid colors and intricate design, was impossible to resist. I decided to treat myself to it as a birthday gift and even picked up a Light My Bricks kit to elevate its visual appeal.

I spent Thanksgiving weekend building the set, and the experience was nothing short of therapeutic. The process of assembling each piece helped me relax, and seeing it come together brought a deep sense of accomplishment. Now, I just need to figure out where to display it!

While I loved the experience, I don’t plan to fill my entire house with Lego sets. For now, I’m sticking to the ones that truly resonate with me. I imagine die-hard Lego fans must have entire rooms dedicated to their collections, and I admire their dedication!

As for me, there’s one other set I might add to my collection in the future: the Lord of the Rings Rivendell set. My Tolkien-loving heart can’t stop thinking about it. Of course, I’d also pick up the matching Light My Bricks kit to make it truly shine.

For now, my Lego journey is more about savoring the process and reconnecting with the creativity I enjoyed as a child. And that, for me, is what makes these sets so special.

As a child, I loved playing with Legos.
