We all know the drill, a new product hits the market, someone rights an article about it or mentions it on social media, the product becomes viral, and then its popularity grows.
This is when the scalpers come in, buy up all of that product they can find, in some cases even using bots (software program that performs automated, repetitive, pre-defined tasks) in order to buy up the products as quickly as possible in order to not let the average consumer a chance.
We’ve seen this many times in the past, currently, it’s the Playstation 5 and the new Xbox, it could be the latest children’s toy and last Halloween it was even a 12-foot tall skeleton at the Home Depot. It’s frustrating when you are trying to get something for yourself or for a loved one but the easiest way to get one requires dishing a ton of more money than what the product is actually worth.
For the past week, a new item at Lowe’s Home Improvement has been making the rounds, an LED projector featuring images from Disney Haunted Mansion. being the big fan that I am and also a fan of Halloween meant that I really wanted one. As expected there were scalpers already jumping on that bandwagon and selling a product for 50 dollars when its retail price is 15.
my hero of the week, a nice lady who is also a massive Haunted mansion fan who went to Lowe’s and picked up about 5 of these projectors, not to sell them for a profit but to sell it back to some of us who have to struggle with finding them in our local stores. The best part is she sold it back to us at retail price (plus shipping) and didn’t even charge sales tax.
In the end there are always good people out there.
