The Quest To Find Happiness in the Stars

After more than a year and a half of waiting our Vespera that we pre-ordered is finally here!

All my life I have always been fascinated with the Cosmos, even though I have never yearned to be an astronaut or to work for Nasa. Just knowing that the universe was so large that it could not be measured has always awed me.

My junior year in high school was special because for one time only my school offered an elective to take Astronomy and I quickly jumped on it. Learning astronomy was a lot harder than I expected but was still so much fun to learn. As a kid, my brother would have a telescope from time to time but it was never a high-end telescope so viewing through it was always limited and troublesome.

My fascination never waned and I loved watching documentaries about space, after I met my husband it was one of the many things that we found we had in common. We both grew up watching Carl Sagan and later Neal Degrasse Tyson.

I had always wanted a high-end telescope and system for astrophotography but was always intimidated by those telescopes. In 2020 a company called Vaonis launched a Kickstarter for a telescope that not only took all the guesswork out of owning a telescope and to add the icing on the cake it was also a camera.

Unfortunately at the time the Kickstarter launched, we did not have the funds to invest but thankfully in early 2021 they opened pre-orders on their site and by then I had the opportunity to place an order. I knew we would be waiting for at least a year and we ended up waiting a year and eight months. In the end, our patience was rewarded, we received the telescope just in time for the fall weather to start and a couple of upcoming trips.

Last night we briefly set it up in the backyard and did a quick viewing of the moon and through the app that it works with was able to snag an amazing picture of the moon.
