The Quest to Catch Up On Live-Action Fullmetal Alchemist

I can’t believe it took me this long to get around to watching the Live action Full Metal Alchemist films on Netflix.

Here is my take on the films. They were fantastic! the second and third films were both released last year.

All three films were fantastic, albeit the first film definitely had some issues with audio levels. I went into these films having watched both anime series and read the entire manga series on multiple occasions. If you were watching the films for the first time never having watched either of the series or read the manga you might have gotten a little lost.

They did cram quite a lot into the three films to the point where at times it jumped around a lot but I had the advantage that my mind was filling in all the gaps.

Overall the cinematography was well done and I really enjoyed the acting, there were times when you can clearly tell they were replicating scenes directly from Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood so the geek in me highly enjoyed those scenes.

Due to time constraints, there was also a lot left out from the original story as well as characters. Also, another thing I did not care for was their attempt at adding makeup to some of the characters to make them look more like their anime counterparts. A good example of this was Louis Armstrong, his makeup job just made him look highly deformed and was not appealing at all.

Overall, the films made me happy and also put me in the mood to revisit and rewatch the Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood series. If you have not watched the films I highly recommend them.

And Yes the Nina and Alexander scene is just as cringeworthy as in the anime.
