Every morning I wake up with a task for myself to find at least one thing that makes me happy each day. Most days it’s easy to find something that makes me happy, usually, it’s tiny things, some days I may struggle to find something that makes me happy, and then there are days where something so awesome happens that it not only makes me happy but it sends me on a Happy High.
What made me so gleeful today is learning that Russel T. Davies will be taking over as the Show Runner for one of my favorite television series Doctor Who.
The reason this has made me so happy is that Russel T. was the original showrunner for the New Series Doctor Who and was such an amazing storyteller. When Steven Moffat took over it was still a great show but in some ways, it went off the rails and when Chris Chibnall took over the series I felt like the series lost the whimsy that made us love the show so much.
The announcement today that Russel T. will be taking on the reins again has me riding the Happy High. I am also hopefully optimistic that this may mean that Torchwood may also be making a comeback.
It was Russel T. who brought the Master back into Doctor Who. Some of my favorite episodes during his run as the showrunner were The Empty Child and the Doctor Dances as well as The Girl in the Fireplace and even Planet of the Dead. David Tennant has always been my favorite doctor and I have always loved the whimsy that Russel brought to the show.
