I didn’t think I was going to have time this week to work on the Stargate but I found some time earlier this afternoon after I was able to score the metallic paint I needed. Supply and demand issues are not just in the grocery stores but in hardware stores as well. I think I was lucky enough to find exactly what I needed.
I was also happy that I was able to skip a step, after I had applied dark grey paint to the majority of the surface I was going to go in with a smaller brush to get all the nooks and crannies that the bigger brush could not reach, I decided to skip that and go straight to spray paint instead, I figured that with most of the areas covered in the latex paint the spray paint will not eat through the foam.
I tested a small area and realized that although the spray paint did eat through the foam a little bit I felt like it provided some definition and texture to the Stargate that I found added to it. I continued with a layer of dark metallic spray paint getting all the nook and crannies and then after that dried I went over it again with silver metallic spray paint.
After I was done I was really happy with how it’s looking so far, the texture from the spray paint added dimension which is making the gate look even better. I love happy little accidents. So my last step in painting is to do some dry brushing on the glyphs and chevrons to have them pop out a little more.
