The Quest to Let the Spice Flow

Even though David Lynch’s Dune is an acquired taste for many I grew up watching it when it aired as a limited series on TV. I always loved it even though it had its problems (mainly the constant inner monologue). I loved the 80’s music soundtrack, the actors, and even the cheesy 80’s special effects I enjoyed.

I really went into the new 2021 film with very high expectations and boy was I NOT disappointed. The visual effects and cinematography were stunning, the soundtrack by Hans Zimmer was epic and unique and the actors in the film were amazing.

We saw it tonight on HBO Max and we plan on seeing it again in theaters tomorrow. What made me happy was learning that the next installment of the Dune film has already been green-lit. Nothing would have been so disappointing than learning this would be a one-and-done with no hope of more films.

The Dune series by Frank Herbert has always fascinated me as a child but I do have a confession to make, though I love the premise of the story and the world-building I have never been able to get past reading the first book. I’ve never even finished the first book. One time I even tried to listen to the audiobook and could not get past that either. There are just some hard science fiction books that can be a little dry.

But that doesn’t mean I’m not willing to give it another try especially since my tastes have been evolving lately.
