It was 48 degrees this morning when we walked outside, today was the first day so far this Autumn season where we actually had to wear a jacket to go outside. It was wonderful. By later in the morning it was still brisk outside but a jacket was no longer needed.
Here in Florida, we don’t really get to enjoy what many up north known as the changing of the leaves. Our trees essentially stay green all year round with a few dropping their leaves around January or February but quickly growing back as soon as Spring hits.
I remember many years ago when my husband and I traveled to Washington DC in November and we marveled at the varied colors that the trees up north could produce, we even saw one tree with bright yellow leaves one day and all the leaves had fallen by the next day. At the most in Florida, we get maybe one or two cold snaps in late January or February that will only last a day or two.
For some that may seem great, many believe that Florida is a tropical paradise, but in all honestly the summers are so humid and hot that it’s overwhelming at the best of times and downright hellish at its worst which is why during the summer we rarely leave the house.
When those cold fronts start making their way down this time of year it almost feels like we come alive with glorious purpose.
