Today was spent doing more packing and preparing for Dragon Con.
We cleaned out the car, I took care of some chores and errands. I’m still going through my packing checklist to make sure I don’t forget anything.
The excitement is building for Dragon Con, it’s not just about being able to geek out but knowing that I will have 6 days away from work and on vacation. Most importantly it’s that feeling we get only at Dragon Con, of belonging and being surrounded by things that bring us so much joy.
I think that’s what it really comes down to, being at Dragon Con makes us so happy. It’s being around so many people who all have so many things in common. It’s being able to go on a treasure hunt for unique and amazing items. It’s seeing all the different costumes and wearing some of my own.
The anticipation of the upcoming con brings me joy, every year we go we are always sad when the convention ends wishing it could go on forever but the truth is that it should not last forever, that would just take the joy out of it. Part of the joy throughout the year is seeing all of the plans being made. Even getting a hotel for the convention is an adventure in itself.
Planning for the next convention starts as soon as the latest one ends, you already see track directors planning for the next year, guests, and vendors already announcing attendance. Typically you can even get your Dragon con membership for the next year while you are at the current convention.
There are just so many things about Dragon Con that make me happy, it’s something that I have never really experienced in all of the other conventions I have ever attended. I have made so many friends at Dragon Con. I love finding new artwork in artist alley, walking the walk of fame just to see which celebrities are here.
But the thing that makes us the happiest is people watching at the Marriott Atlanta in the evening time when all the cosplayers are out. I’m always in awe when I see how talented the cosplayers are, or I get so excited when I see someone cosplaying one of my favorite characters.
